Procedure for gaining a name within the ACAD.MD domain

Submitting requests:

  1. Requests may be submitted either as a formatted template in plain text to the following email address:

naming-acad@renam.md       (This is a closed list whose members will pprove/reject the request).

or in writing to RENAM naming service. Posted requests should be in the same format as the template.

  1. For any name submitted there are two possible outcomes:

Accepted. This will mean that there is no objection to the name and a positive acknowledgement will be returned to the organisation submitting the request.

Note: Once a new domain name has been accepted it will be delegated to the designated nameservers given in the application. If the nameservers are not working or have been incorrectly configured then the delegation will not take place. It is then the responsibility of the nameservers administrators to e-mail naming-admin/at/renam.md when everything is in place.

Rejected. This will mean that the domain name is not acceptable. This category would include:

In the case of a Rejected outcome any subsequent requests for the same end organisation will be treated as a new request.

  1. The target turnaround time for requests is five working days from receipt of the template. A message will be sent to the submitter of the request advising that the request has either been Accepted or Rejected.
  2. Accepted domain names will then be put forward for delegation to take place in the DNS. Therefore there is a requirement for the designated nameservers to be correctly configured to take the new name from the initial submission of the template requesting the new domain name.

Usually there will be no charge for a request that produces a Rejected outcome. However, RENAM reserves the right to make a charge for frivolous, time-wasting or other requests which impose an undue use of resources to deal with.
In the case of a Rejected outcome any subsequent requests for the same end organisation will be treated as a new request.

Eligibility Guidelines for a Name within ACAD.MD and RENAM.MD

RENAM publish the guidelines used to determine eligibility of organisations for a name in the ACAD.md and RENAM.mddomain.

An institution or organisation may register one or more names in the ac.uk domain provided that it satisfies at least one of the following criteria:

Where necessary, the assessment that the „core activities” or „primary purpose” fits one or more of the categories above will be determined from the institution’s or organisation’s Certificate or equivalent document.

Rules for the choice of a domain name

An organisation may take out as many names within the acad.md or renam.md domain as it wishes, subject to the following constraints which will apply to each name requested.

Subject to these constraints, names will be approved on a „first come, first served” basis.Should these rules be revised at a later date, existing registrations will remain valid even if they would otherwise fall outside the revised rules. If a name is allocated as a result of misrepresentation on the part of the requester or its principal, RENAM administration reserves the right to withdraw the allocated name. In such a circumstance there will be no compensation for costs (direct or indirect) incurred by the organisation as a result of the need to rename.
