In January 2025, GÉANT entered the new phase of the GN5 project, GN5-2, which builds on the success of GN5-1 and the ongoing work in GN5-IC1, its sister project started in late 2022 with a focus on intercontinental connectivity. The long-running and transformative GÉANT Project has supported Europe’s research and education communities for nearly 30 years. With 38 project partners (including the GÉANT Association) representing all of Europe’s National Research and Education Networks (NRENs), the GÉANT Project is a highly successful example of pan-European collaboration.
GN5-2 is the second in a series of projects foreseen under GN5-FPA, the 72-month strategic framework that outlines the overall direction, objectives, and impacts of individual projects within that time-frame as part of Horizon Europe – the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation.
