RENAM participated in the Europe Day celebration, which took place on May 11, 2019 in Chisinau. In order to celebrate the occasion, the traditional European Village was built in the Public Garden “Stefan cel Mare” in the city center.
The official inauguration of the European Village was attended by the Leadership of the country, representatives of the Government, EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova and ambassadors of the European states.
RENAM was present in a tent of the Europe Village together with the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. Throughout the day, representatives of RENAM provided information support to interested people and answered questions on issues related to operation of the NREN of Moldova – RENAM, services for research and education development, possibilities to access eduroam Wi-Fi roaming service, eduGAIN technology and LoLa audiovisual streaming system, benefits of e-infrastructures for various research domains, and potential collaboration.
Special interest was given to the international projects implemented by RENAM in Moldova with the support of the EU.
GEANT pan-European Academic Network is a successful innovation project that is pushing the boundaries of networking technology to deliver real impact to over 50 million users. The GEANT network provides the high speed connectivity needed to share, access and process the massive volumes of data. This data is generated by, and essential to, diverse research and education communities across such areas as particle physics, bioinformatics, Earth observation, drug discovery, and arts and culture.
Supporting connections between researchers and students from the Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine), the EaPConnect project helps them work together, becoming global players in the world of research. EaPConnect provides international collaboration, high-speed reliable internet, access to publishing portals, data processing using remote supercomputers, advanced video conferencing and other communication tools, e-learning and telemedicine opportunities.
