Students of two additional universities in Moldova – Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University in Chisinau (UPSC) and Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts (AMTAP) – can now benefit from eduroam, thanks to RENAM, the National Research and Education Network of Moldova. Internet access for these institutions is now easily available and secure in the study areas and at the dormitories.
During 2021 and 2022, RENAM and university specialists installed and configured 48 access points at UPSC and 54 at AMTAP to connect the university buildings and dormitories to eduroam.
eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide Wi-Fi roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. It allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions by simply opening their laptop, mobile phone or other device.
“For the first time I really felt the benefits of eduroam when visiting the University of Niš, Serbia in the framework of Erasmus+ project, which did not have a dedicated Wi-Fi connection. And without the availability of eduroam it was very challenging to carry out planned collaboration activities. In addition, at the same time I needed to attend an online conference. As it’s a student city, with my eduroam credentials I was able to have internet access in different buildings.
More students and professors at UPSC currently taking part in consortia involved in research projects with universities in other European countries, now have the opportunity to use reliable internet connectivity.
At UPSC – in the Future Classroom Lab and in the university dormitories – eduroam now ensures easy access for students and professors to digital content and online data consumption. Students and professors tend to spend hours online to research, study and produce content for lessons or also to communicate, share, exchange data with other users.”

eduroam users from Moldova can also freely access the internet abroad – with more than 10,000 eduroam hotspots across more than 100 countries – whether they are participating in the Erasmus+ international exchange programme, a scientific conference or a collaboration.
As a partner of the EU-funded ‘EU4Digital: Connecting Research and Education Communities (EaPConnect)’, RENAM continues to expand the infrastructure and to provide the necessary support and services to its connected institutions.
