RENAM contributes to an integrated Moldovan-Romanian cross border communication system creation

On December 15, 2023, at the Digital Park in Chisinau, a conference dedicated to the completion of the project ‘Communication Infrastructure’ funded by the European Union through the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI) under the Joint Operational Programme Romania – Republic of Moldova 2014-2020 ‘Development of cross border transport and ICT infrastructure’ was held. RENAM contributed to the integrated communication system creation by providing infrastructure services, ensuring the interoperability of the communications of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova.

The general objective of the project ‘Communication Infrastructure’ (COMINF, code EMS-ENI-COMINF/3.1/1) is to increase the cooperation capacity and the information exchange between the public authorities of Romania and the Republic of Moldova over the cross border area, through the implementation of an integrated communication system, with the following specific objectives:

The new infrastructure will ensure the collaboration between the partner institutions of the two countries is faster and more accessible. By expanding communications capabilities and improving information sharing, law enforcement authorities in the Republic of Moldova and Romania will benefit from secure and effective cooperation in managing emergencies and other cross border challenges. Among the significant achievements of the project is the modernization of the communication infrastructure, facilitating a fast exchange of information with an increased transmission capacity of at least 5 Gbps between Chisinau and Iasi. RENAM provides the optical channel to connect networks of Romania and the Republic of Moldova in this segment, thus contributing to the specific objective 2. The optical data communication network in the project is a DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) based network, operating through the existing RENAM infrastructure.

“We are pleased to work with RENAM in the framework of this project. The achieved results give us the confidence to continue collaboration in future joint projects.”
Denis Mihaiescu, Project Manager, Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova
